What Does an Aged Care Worker Do?

Aged Care Workers provide support to elderly people by assisting with daily activities and personal tasks. This often includes providing support with eating, showering, dressing, tidying and cleaning. Aged Care Workers can work from their client’s home or residential care facility.

Tasks:

  • Feeding, showering, dressing and assisting with medications.
  • Preparing meals and drinks.
  • Tidying and cleaning, including sanitising activities.
  • Engaging with family members to offer observations, instructions and updates.
  • Assisting with mobility, providing transport to and from medical appointment and light physiotherapy exercises.
  • Providing social support, such as escorting the client on outings to cafes, shops and going on excursions.
  • Following health and safety guidelines.

What is the Pay?

The pay for an Aged Care Worker is on average AU$55 000 per year, however this is subject to change based on employer, state and various other variables.

Our Course:

The Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) is a 1 year course, consisting of 13 units.

The course is completely self-paced with full tutor support. All theory work is to be completed online and this is followed by a 120 hour or three week placement in an Aged Care Facility.

The placement not only is for applying the skills learnt in the theory work, but provides students with an understanding of how Aged Care Facilities are run, and provides an opportunity to build rapport with a facility for employment upon completion!
